M2T Sponsors a MEAK Heart Mission!
16 Children Receive Life-Saving Surgery!
March to the Top sponsored a MEAK Heart Mission that took place January 18th-28th, 2017 at the M.P. Shah Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. Life-saving pediatric surgeries were performed on children ages 7 months to 12 years old. The mission was a huge success!
In addition to the 16 pediatric cardiac operations performed, other mission achievements include:
- 62 children received echocardiograms & reviews in clinic
- Intensive training program in managing pediatric cardiac patients delivered
- Pediatric Echocardiography training to physician from Sierra Leone
- Cardiology review of Kenyan children for Chain of Hope UK
This mission was particularly special to March to the Top because the team was able to come to Nairobi, Kenya to be present for the mission. The team spent time with the dedicated doctors and nurses that make these missions possible. In addition to the doctors and nurses that traveled from England and volunteered their time, MEAK worked in partnership with local medical teams to ensure the efficiency and efficacy of the mission. Throughout the mission, these local medical teams received training and mentorship from the MEAK team, empowering these individuals and granting hands-on experience in managing pediatric cardiac patients.
Throughout the mission, the March to the Top team had the opportunity to meet the brave children receiving surgeries as well as their families. They witnessed the surgeries taking place first hand and were inspired by every person that made this mission possible and such a success!
